The nanometric dimension of the hydroxyapatite nanoparticles is very important because they then behave according to the laws of quantum physics, and this offers new properties, applications and benefits when they are stably integrated into the tooth enamel. It is also essential that the concentration of nanoparticles is right for maximum effect.
To determine the ideal concentration in toothpastes, DENTAID conducted a study together with Dr. Gil Loscos et. al at the University of Valencia. The aim of the study was to ascertain the tubular sealing capacity in vitro and the duration of this effect, as presented in a toothpaste based on hydroxyapatite nanoparticles applied to the dentin surface, with observation via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and tested in 3 different concentrations of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (0.15%, 0.45% and 0.75%).
The results showed that the paste that behaved best was that which had a 0.45% concentration of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles, both on application and after subsequent rinsing.
The conclusion was that hydroxyapatite nanoparticles are able to reduce dentin permeability with the occlusion of dentinal tubules through the formation of a deposit on the surface of the tooth. The other concentrations did not accomplish the same sealing effect.
DENTAID has demonstrated that the concentration of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles included in its formula for toothpastes and mouthwashes is the ideal for achieving the maximum effect from the first application.

The formulation of Desensin® repair contains:
• Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles, 0.45%: These seal the dentinal tubules, and repair and protect the enamel from the first application, eliminating dental hypersensitivity.
• Potassium nitrate, 5%: Helps to alleviate dental pain.
• Allantoin, 0.10% + Provitamin B5, 1% + Vitamin E: These prevent gingival retraction and protect and care for the gums.
• Sodium monofluorophosphate, 1.10%: Prevents tooth decay.
