Dental hypersensitivity is an inordinately painful response to a sensory stimulus that should not normally cause pain in a healthy tooth. This disorder can affect eating, breathing, drinking, brushing teeth, etc.
This heightened hypersensitivity hinders the ability to control oral biofilm and compromises oral health. The main symptom is a sharp, intense pain caused by tactile (brushing), thermal (heat or cold) and chemical (acids and sweets) stimuli, and even from exposure to air.
Untreated dental hypersensitivity may hinder proper oral hygiene because of the pain from brushing and can consequently lead to the build-up of biofilm and other more serious pathologies, such as tooth decay and periodontal disease.
The Desensin repair® formula includes technology based on hydroxyapatite, the main component of the tooth, guaranteeing full integration with the tooth enamel and the dentin. Its primary benefits are:
1. Repairs tooth enamel: hydroxyapatite is able to repair grooves and defects in tooth enamel naturally by forming a protective layer.
2. Desensitising action – seals the dentinal tubules: deposits on exposed, open dentinal tubules, sealing them and forming a protective layer.
3. Whitens and polishes: by filling the cracks and irregular surfaces of the tooth enamel, hydroxyapatite forms a smoother, brighter uniform layer that helps return the teeth to their natural white colour.
4. Anti-caries action: the hydroxyapatite that binds to the dental enamel has a high affinity for fluoride ions, thus transforming into fluorapatite, which is less soluble in acids and makes the tooth more resistant to caries.
