Water flossing by direct application of a pulsating stream of water or of another solution—like mouthwash—is indicated as a complement to brushing for implant wearers, thus ensuring optimal daily oral hygiene results. S
everal studies show that water flossing with Waterpik® improves the following periodontal parameters in patients with implants:
• Reduction of gingival bleeding by 77.3% after 14 days of use, and by 81.8% after 30 days(1).
• The addition of a chlorhexidine-based mouthwash in water flossing with Waterpik® in patients undergoing peri-implant maintenance allows for greater reduction of bleeding (62%) and of inflammation of the gums (45%), compared to the use of a chlorhexidine rinse alone(2).
For a successful dental implant treatment, strict daily oral hygiene is essential. Water flossing is very useful during peri-implant maintenance thanks to the benefits obtained.
In addition, the use of water flossing with chlorhexidine helps prevent and control peri-implant disease. Perio·Aid® is ideal for this.
