News for dentistry professionals

The most important of these factors is the appearance of periodontal pockets, in which case it is necessary to continue treatment with a surgical intervention to eliminate and/or reduce these pockets.
Different periodontal surgery techniques, their applications and the factors that contribute to the success of any particular intervention, are explained in the "Current Research" section, which concludes that, as in other disciplines, periodontal surgery is a mixture of science and art for a satisfactory final result.
After oral surgery, it is essential to minimise the consequences derived from the intervention and to repair the damaged tissues as soon as possible, also avoiding the accumulation of bacteria that could increase the risk of infection of the treated area. In addition, the wound must be adequately protected to allow rapid healing and reduced inflammation, which will favour the recovery process. With these objectives, DENTAID has developed Perio·Aid® bioadhesive gel with antiseptic, regenerative and healing properties, thanks to its exclusive formulation based on chlorhexidine, hyaluronic acid and panthenol. An innovative solution, to offer the best post-surgical treatment in the dental clinic, which we address in the “DENTAID Solutions” section.
In "Aula DENTAID" (Dentaid’s training section) we review the IV SEPA-DENTAID Symposium, which enrolled more than 1,100 professionals, and we present the new cycle of courses for dental hygienists which will take place in the coming months.
Dr. Carlos de Teresa Galván, member of the Spanish Society of Sports Medicine (SEMED), is the protagonist of the ”Interview” section, where he explains how the practice of sport can influence the state of oral health.
In the sections on our collaboration with professional associations, we explain the association between a high consumption of carbohydrates and a greater occurrence of caries ("The hygienist’s point of view"), the basic aspects of comprehensive dental hygiene in childhood ("The voice of SEPA”) and the most common potentially malignant disorder in the oral cavity, leukoplakia (“The voice of SECIB “).
Dental cleaning in orthodontic patients is the central focus of several articles included in the "Study" section, in which we present a preliminary research study on the change of oral hygiene behaviours in adolescents wearing orthodontic appliances, and in the "News" section, where we offer recommendations for oral cleaning in orthodontic patients with hygiene tools including Interprox® interproximal brushes or Waterpik® water flossers.
Finally, other topics in the "News" section include the effective prevention and treatment of gingivitis-related bleeding gums by VITIS® gingival, which has won the Challenger Award in the Netherlands; the participation of DENTAID in Expodental and the Meeting of the Spanish Society of Periodontics and Osseointegration (SEPA), held in Seville.
