As part of the continuing effort by dentaid® Xeros to improve the quality of life of patients with xerostomia, the brand will participate in the First SEEO Oncology Nursing Training Session, which will be billed as “Advancing in oncology care. Learning together”
Both chemotherapy and radiation therapy can affect the salivary glands and cause xerostomia.
With regard to chemotherapy, medication that individually or in combination with others might produce xerostomia has not been properly documented, but approximately 40% of patients report this side effect during treatment. It is usually short-term, and recovery is observed two to eight weeks after therapy.
On the other hand, radiation therapy can exert permanent glandular damage, even in low doses, be it in the major glands or in the minor ones that are in the field of radiation. The cells of the salivary glands are especially sensitive to radiation, which can end up causing fibrosis, degeneration and atrophy of the glandular cells.
Fortunately, in many cases new radiation therapy techniques reduce the effects on the salivary glands. Oral care during cancer treatment is very important.
DENTAID has therefore set up a stand for the duration of the conference so that all the professionals involved in the field of oncology can get to know us and obtain information.
The dentaid® Xeros product range offers different formulations with active moisturisers and stimulants of saliva secretion. Their use can aid in the maintenance of proper daily oral hygiene and improve the quality of life of patients suffering from xerostomia.
