If you have diseased gums, the problem is not limited to your mouth. Recent studies prove without a doubt that gum health has a direct impact on general health. That is why the Spanish Society of Periodontology (SEPA) and the Spanish Society of Cardiology (SEC) have formed a working group—sponsored by DENTAID brands Perio·Aid® and VITIS® gingival—whose aim is to raise awareness among professionals in these fields of the close relationship that exists between periodontal and cardiovascular health.

The aim of its various activities is to promote the role of dentistry in cardiovascular health, so that dental clinics will adopt skills for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, for example. Similarly, it seeks to emphasise the importance of checking the condition of gums as a routine part of cardiovascular practice, in the same way blood pressure or cholesterol are checked. Basically, this alliance aims to strengthen ties between the oral health community and healthcare professionals in other fields in order to promote the prevention and early detection of periodontal diseases and their treatment, and in turn, to prevent consequences for overall health. The goal is to progress in three essential areas: information, multidisciplinary integration and research, emphasising the key role dental clinics can play to help promote health and prevent disease.

Thanks to its formulation containing cetylpyridinium chloride, which inhibits the build-up of oral biofilm, VITIS Gingival effectively prevents periodontal disease. In addition, the rest of its components increase gingival resistance to inflammation, inhibit bleeding and protect the gums, thus ensuring their complete care.
